Your Car Needs an AC Service if You Notice the Following 4 Things

It’s awesome living in the San Fernando Valley. Sherman Oaks is beautiful and the weather is warm and sunny for most of the year. Summer can brutal, though, with our temperatures exceeding 100 degrees day in and day out. You need your vehicle’s air conditioner, especially right now. Boulevard Auto Repair can help if it’s on the fritz. How can you tell? Check out these four things so you will know if it is time to schedule an automotive AC service in Sherman Oaks, CA.

Hot, Not Cold Air

Your automobile’s air conditioner uses refrigerant – don’t worry, environmentally friendly – to cool the air circulating through the cabin. If the coolant is low, or there’s something going on with the AC’s condenser or compressor, you’ll end up with hot air blowing out of the vents instead of the cold air you long for. Usually, this is a quick fix. We just need to recharge the system and replenish the refrigerant.

What Air?

If you aren’t getting hot or cold air coming out of your vents, you’re looking at an electrical malfunction or a clog in the ventilation system somewhere. Your vehicle’s fan uses a blower motor to circulate air through the vents. The motor itself could be bad, or the problem could lie with the electricity to it. You may also have a clogged air filter or the air intake into your engine is dirty and clogged.

Well, the Air Is Kind of Cold…

Another sign that your air-conditioning refrigerant is low is you can feel the air cool down as it comes out of the vents but it never really gets cold. There may enough refrigerant left in the AC to reduce the air’s temperature so it’s more pleasant, but you still don’t feel the arctic blast you were hoping for. Plan to have your AC system serviced every spring to avoid this problem once the summer heat hits.

My Vents Stink!

If you’ve never had your air conditioner service, you probably have all kinds of things growing in the system. Bacteria, mildew, and mold can all grow in your vehicle’s AC and ventilation systems, and you will smell the growth when you turn on the AC. Usually, the unpleasant odor is musty – really musty. You may also feel sick when you turn on the AC, such as get a headache or start coughing.
